Dr Parag Vora – Hamilton’s Top 10 Travel Attractions

Hamilton is one of the beautiful places in Ontario province. When I started working at McMaster University (Hamilton) as Dr Parag Vora, I visited this beautiful city for the first time. I was allured and attracted by its fragrance of beauty and its heritage. In this blog, I, Parag Vora will share my experience and list out what I found attractive while Burlington, Hamilton (Canada) exploration trip.

Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum

If you are new to the Hamilton city, I suggest you start your exploration with the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Enjoy visiting this wonderful place that carries lots of memories about Canadian war history and about military planes. There are 40 aircraft that have been restored for the public that were used in World War 2. Let me tell you, not only Parag Vora but his family too was blown away from the artifacts the place had!

Dundurn Castle

There are 40 well decorated rooms inside this castle, and a produce garden with lots of vegetables, herbs and fruits. The castle boasts an Italian-style villa, renovated about 50 years ago. This castle included a zoo before it was turned to a museum in the 1900s. Originally built in the 1830s; an old castle full of memories from the past. You will be impressed with how they have preserved its condition.

Tews Falls

After exploring history, I suggest you to visiting Tews Falls which is like smaller version of Niagra Falls. When I first saw this natural waterfall, I was amazed to know that it is the tallest waterfall in Hamilton city about 41 meters! It will be best for you to visit this wonder during the springtime when the weather is clear. Dr Parag Vora (Canada) highly recommends this!

Art Gallery of Hamilton

Slow down and be inspired at Hamilton’s century-old gallery, the oldest and largest in Southern Ontario. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is home to more than 10,000 works including Canadian historical, contemporary and international art. In addition to world class exhibits, sought after permanent pieces include Alex Colville’s famous Horse and Train painting as well as the mind-blowing Bruegel-Bosch Bus by Kim Adams (the gallery’s most photographed installation).

African Lion Safari

Simply don’t miss the best part of sightseeing African lion safari! It’s a family- owned park with lots of exotic birds and animals like cheetah, lion, giraffe, and many more! I really enjoyed spending time there with my family on my short visit. Animals are really cute and adorable! The park authorities have made ways for guests to walk in the park where they can have a closer look at animals from the fence without any fear! I’m planning to visit other zoos of Hamilton soon and my kids have also added zoos of Burlington, Ontario, and Toronto to the list. Parag Vora on Instagram (Radiologist) to get access to pictures!

Royal Botanical Gardens

Awaken your senses at this open-air museum, bursting with natural wonders. Bragging rights at Canada’s largest botanical garden include: the world’s largest lilac collection, 100,000 spring bulbs, 3000 rose bushes, endless trails and the recently restored Rock Garden, a stunning and tranquil National Historic Site. Year round events and concerts alongside award-winning dining make round out Hamilton’s own paradise found.

Bayfront Park

You can’t imagine how an industrial site can turn into a beautiful recreational area. This used to be a landfill before it was converted to Bayfront Park. They planted more trees to enhance it and created a fish habitat. Now it’s a beautiful park perfect for families. It was opened in 1993 and has received many awards.

Devil’s Punchbowl Falls

One of Niagara Escarpment’s beautiful sites has two waterfalls, the lower falls and the upper falls. It’s called The Devil’s Punchbowl. The Silurian rock is also found here, and if you’re taking the trail through Stoney Creek, you would have to start at this location. The falls look stunning and extraordinary. Definitely a must-see!

Sam Lawrence Park For Stunning City And Ocean Views

The Sam Lawrence Park sits on the high ground overlooking Hamilton and the coast. The attractive park is easily accessible as it’s only a short drive from downtown. Parking is free, but if you don’t have a car, public transport is available to get to the destination. The park has winding paths, trails, rock gardens, and walkways. Benches are provided to sit and relax on and on clear days you may even see Toronto in the distance. The profusion of flowers in summer provides a fairyland setting with photo opportunities all around. The lush gardens make for a cool spot as you meander around. Interpretation signs help you to understand the history and the geological formations in the area. A visit just before sunset will let you see the beauty of the town, harbor, and the escarpment as the last light of day bathes the town below in glorious light.

Whitehern Historic House And Garden Museum

Whitehern was built in the late 1840s and today it’s been preserved as a house museum. The classical Victorian home belonged to the family of Thomas McQueston and was willed to the city in 1968. The house is open to the public every day except Mondays and Civic holidays, from 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm. History buffs will have a thoroughly interesting time and there’s enough fun provided in the kids’ area to keep the family entertained for an afternoon. As it’s close to a shopping area, it’s an ideal place to visit after treating yourself to lunch. The gardens are lush and beautiful and if you don’t go inside, you can enjoy them for free. The historic site often advertises concerts where you can get all-you can-drink-tea or lemonade. Admission rates are 7 CAD (5.4 USD) for adults and 5 CAD (3.9 USD) for children aged six to 12. Family tickets are also available.

Dr.Parag Vora Entry 2 – My Weekend Exploration to Burlington

I think it is good to spend some time outdoors. So, I decided to dedicate the past weekend to exploring the unexplored areas of Burlington!  For those who don’t know, the city has Canada’s biggest royal botanical garden which is the main attraction spot for tourists. Quite astonishing for Dr. Parag Vora who has spent most weekends of past decade in hospital corridors

You should visit Mount Nemo conservation area if you are a climbing fan. I did try some hiking. The best part is you’ll  feel blessed while surrounded by the beautiful nature with best cliff ecosystems. You’ll find green, rich farms, ancient cedar trees that are to be thousands of years old! I would also recommend people of Hamilton to visit Burlington for their weekend trip. This is a recommendation from Dr. Parag Vora. So you must take it seriously!

At night, the whole thing seem to become a different world! Also, did you check my first blog? Have a look at the first post from Dr Parag Vora’s Hamilton Travel Diary!

Dr Parag Vora in Burlington nights

The people of Burlington are quite the lively ones! If you are a night owl, you won’t get bored a single minute! There are also a handful of trending lounges which serve the best cuisine dishes where you can enjoy amazing food that you never have tasted before! You get the best live music, bars and nightclubs in Burlington. Dr Parag Vora has not explored all that but it surely is on my radar!

Spencer Smith Park

If you love spending time sitting out in the sun, don’t miss going to Spencer Smith Park! It is the best picnic spot you can ever have with your loved ones. Walking along the pier, it looks so awesome when you feel the smooth breeze flowing past waterfront to your face! This park holds most of Burlington’s festivals also. One of them is the beat celebration of Burlington beer festival! Parag Vora enjoyed this weekend trip to this fabulous city of Burlington. Let me know what did you do last weekend, guys

Besides being a radiologist, I always had interest in travel. For my 2019, I decided to work in the same direction and hence created this blog to build myself as a digital Travel Guide for my beloved Hamilton and Burlington.

So, here I’m to blog about Local travel in Hamilton,Burlington and all over Canada.

Hamilton & Burlington – Travel attractions

Canada has a lot to offer in terms of tourism. I will give you an overview about some of the things not to miss if you planning a trip to Hamilton or Burlington, Canada in near or far future.

  • Practice snow-based sports in winters
  • Nature and wildlife areas in Hamilton
  • Famous museums and parks of Burlington
